BIBLE LEARNING SERIES: “When the Mormons Come Knocking”
May 4th; 5pm; BHBC Worship Center; teacher, Nick Watts
Only one session, we’ll learn the key questions to ask when engaging in conversation with people representing any “faith-belief system” other than biblcial Christianity.
In regard, specifically, to the LDS Church (Mormons), should you invite LDS missionaries into your home you will immediately discover that the terms THEY use are exactly the terms WE use. So what’s the problem?
Also, is biblical Christianity REALLY the ONLY truth out there? That’s an awfully narrow-minded perspective, isn’t it?
Finally, the following paragraph is from the official Mormon web site: “Faith in Jesus Christ is a firm conviction that He is who He says He is and that He will help us when we seek Him. Faith in Christ means trusting in Him, remembering Him, and following His teachings. It is a conviction that He is the Son of God, “The way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6).”
What is NOT true about that paragraph? Could it be that the Mormon Church believes the same thing we do? If so, why all the controversy?
Great questions. We’ll answer every one of them on May 4th. 🙂
WHY WE CHOOSE SUICIDE
My wife, Michelle, brought this video clip to my attention. This speaker is not speaking at a Christian event, so there is no reference to how our faith factors into the issue of suicide. However, the speaker – speaking from experience – does his best to explain the mind of a suicidal person. It is very powerful and gave me insight, potentially, into my son’s thought process the morning he took his life. It was hard for me to watch, but insightful. The clip is 15 minutes in length. So, should you be interested, you’ll need to wait until you have some uninterupted time.
POWERFUL TESTIMONY OF HOW ONE MAN CAME TO CHRIST
Hopefully, you’ve had the chance to view the movie, “God’s Not Dead.” In the movie there is an Asian college student from atheistic family who eventually decides there is evidence for the existence of God. That character in the movie is based on this real-life story. Enjoy. 🙂 http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/04/03/chinese-surgeons-real-life-switch-from-atheism-to-christianity-inspired-a-central-character-in-gods-not-dead/
FROM THE NY TIMES: A STORY OF THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS
LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE
This week’s entry is a little different. Rather than a “quote”, it’s a very short “news article.” I’m not sure if you’ll laugh, or moan, or both. It’s unbelievable. I don’t really have words to describe it…..
GRACE NOTES: “Bitter or Better: It’s Your Choice” – This week, you’ll read an excerpt from a letter I received a couple of years ago. It is powerful. Jesus never once said that life woud be easy. In fact, He both modeled and said the exact opposite. The key lies in our response.
Soli Deo Gloria, Nick
