All You Wanted to Know about the BHBC Music Ministry (and more)

MUSIC NOTES: 4.29.14

THIS SUNDAY, 5/4

Preacher: Dr. Jerry Joplin; Sermon topic: Heaven
Choir: “Hallelujah Medley” from “It Would Take a Cross”

THIS SUNDAY, 5/4; 5pm; BIBLE LEARNING SERIES: “When the Mormons Come Knocking”

BHBC Worship Center; teacher, Nick Watts; One session only.

What this class will NOT be:
(1) A time to bash or insult people of the Mormon faith. They are some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet.
(2) An opportunity to learn all we can about the Mormon faith. Not being a Mormon, I am neither qualified nor equipped to fulfill that objective. If you want to know more about the Mormon faith, flag down a Mormon Missionary like I did. 🙂

What this class WILL be:
(1) A lesson in biblical truth where conflicting “faith/belief systems” are concerned.
(2) An opportunity to identify the THREE KEY DIFFERENCES between biblical Christianity and every other “faith/belief system”.
(3) An opportunity to learn what to say to a Mormon Missionary who knocks on your door, or a Mormon friend when/if you should engage in faith-related dialogue.
(4) An opportunity to learn how to most effectively share your faith with a Mormon.

“IT WOULD TAKE A CROSS” – MAY 11th

PLEASE – even if you’ve missed rehearsals – come join me in this musical/artistic mission. We filled the loft last May for “The Story”, as well as for our Christmas Musical last December. I need someone in every seat.

The Truth That Gives Power to the Musical: I can’t overstate the power of the message of the cross. I’ll leave the communication of the cross’ power to Paul, who wrote, “When you were dead in your sins…, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us ALL our sins, having CANCELED the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the CROSS. And having disarmed the [satanic] powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the CROSS.” (Colossians 2:13-15)

Remaining Rehearsals: (1) Wed., 4/30, (2) Sun., 5/4, 3-5pm, (3) Wed., 5/7, (4) Sat., 5/10, 10:30-Noon.

Performances: 5/11 – 9:15am and 10:45am

“NAZARETH” – JESUS’ “SILENT YEARS” COMING TO TV

I see nothing but controversy coming from this future tv series.  I think there’s a reason God decided not to record details regarding Jesus’ adolescent and young adult years.  But, there’s money to be made from advertisers.  So, here come the shows…

VOCAL BEAUTY. FROM ICELAND.

Some folks in Iceland gathered together one day to create musical magic. I’m not certain what building they’re inside, but this I know: it has gorgeous acoustics. The song is medieval/renaissance in style. I absolutely loved singing this style of music in choir while at HSU. Sit back and enjoy.

YOU’RE A STAR! THE MOVIE IS “FACEBOOK”. YOUR ROLE IS THE LOSER.

This is a blog every parent in America should read. But, it’s a solid resource for us all – since social media plays a role in the majority of Americans nowadays.

HEAVEN IS 4 REAL

Wonderful blog (in my opinion) of the book-turned-into-movie. I have read the book (loved it.) Have not seen the movie yet but look forward to doing so. I haven’t heard any of the debate to which the blogger refers, but I strongly agree with (1) the blogger’s argument that experiences like this are real, and (2) that every – EVERY – “near death” experience should be tested against the Bible.

Great quote from editorial: [On 4-year-old Colton’s near-death experience]: Colton’s grandmother reflects this attitude: “I accepted the idea of heaven before, but now I visualize it. Before, I’d heard, but now I know that someday I’m going to see.”

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER: May 1st, in front of the Lubbock County Courthouse downtown. We meet on the lawn next to the gazebo structure there. It is a marvelous time for the whole community to representatively lift up our nation, state, and community, and those who serve us in public office. It is also an opportunity for pastors to gather around our civic officials and pray for them in person.

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

This week’s entry comes courtesy of one of my favorite comedians, Brian Regan. If you’ve ever flown before you’ll be laughing loudly – just like I was.
