THIS SUNDAY, 8/10:
CHOIR: “Won’t It be Wonderful There”
PREACHER: Jim Gerlt
AUGUST 27TH! Adult Choir Rehearsal Resumes!
FYI: INTRODUCING THE BHBC PRAISE TEAM (AGAIN)
We would’ve reintroduced a Praise Team (vocalists) a year ago but, when my son took his life, everything came to a screeching halt. That said, God’s timing is always perfect. (Read through the gospels and you’ll find that Jesus was never in a hurry – but He was never late.)
Except for one name, all Praise Team members are “new faces.” We will actually employ two Praise Teams that alternate weekly. In addition, their role as worship leaders will be drastically different. As I shared with them in an email: “You are NOT “back-up singers”. The “pips” were great for Gladys Knight, but not for leading people to an acute awareness of Jesus Christ.” These men & women will be out front leading our people to the throne of Christ via the arts. Their first Sunday will be August 24th.
PASTOR SEARCH TEAM UPDATE
As stated last week, the Personnel Team & Church Council will convene this coming Sunday, 8/10, to begin mapping out the path to form our Search Team. I will update you here as new information is made available.

JORDAN WATTS & THE BLOOD OF CHRIST
We were visited by three of Jordan’s best friends a couple of weeks ago – and all heaven broke loose.

THE EPIDEMIC OF BIBLE ILLITERACY
From the blog: “Four in 10 American adults can’t name the first book of the Bible. (That’s almost HALF!) More than half can’t name the first four books of the New Testament. About 80 percent think “God helps those who help themselves” is a Bible verse.” ***This topic correlates directly to the following two news items. How on earth can believers know what is right and what is wrong according to the Bible if they have no idea what the Bible says?

SOBERING TRUTH ABOUT OUR NATIONAL FREEDOM
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” President Ronald Reagan.
“What one generation tolerates, the next will embrace.” John Wesley
MORALITY: WHAT (OR WHO) DECIDES WHAT IS “RIGHT & WRONG” ON PLANET EARTH?
This brief, 5 minute debate (link below) exposes the inane, paint-yourself-into-a-corner philosophy of atheism where this particular topic is concerned.
On the left is Dr. Frank Turek, Christian and president of Crossexamined.org. On the right is David Silverman, president of American Atheists.
At the 3:30 mark, Dr. Turek asks Silverman, “[So, if morality is relative, and not God, but society, decides what is good & evil, and the Nazis truly believed what they were doing was ‘good,’] then we had no real way to condemn the Nazis for what they did.” Silverman’s answer is deplorable.
QUOTE(s) OF THE WEEK
“Prayer is the gasoline that the engine of the Kingdom runs on.” Greg Boyd
“God’s plan A for your life is that you will go through regular periods of suffering. And there is no plan B. (2 Timothy 2:3.)” Dr. Clay Jones, Biola University
LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE
AS WE APPROACH THE ANNIVERSARY OF ELVIS’ DEATH…I SHARE THIS “INSPIRING” STORY….
Sitting in our Family Room watching “Elvis on Tour”. My daughter, Macy, walks in from her supper date, sees that Elvis is in the middle of his “American Trilogy”, and says, “Hey dad, can you pause it so I go can change clothes real fast? I don’t wanna miss this.” (I was soooo proud.)
Then she follows up with, “If I could be anyone it would be Elvis – well, Jesus, then Elvis.”
GRACE NOTES: “A Literal Picture of Grace So Amazing”
I’m taking a one-week break from my series on “The Armor of God” to share with you an issue that, I am convinced, plagues the Body of Christ: unforgiveness. Please consider reading my testimony of how I forgave my dad. When I preached on this topic at Southcrest (here in Lubbock) years ago, a man approached me after the service and said, “I’ve been bitter and held a grudge for 40 years. Tonight, I have forgiven.” There’s not one thing easy about forgiving – satan makes certain of that. But “forgiving” is one of the things we do that perfectly aligns our heart with the heart of Christ, Himself, who forgave us.
