YOUR BRAIN ON PORN

Sex is not a dirty word. Sex was God’s idea.

However, as with anything else God has created, Satan has done his best to distort God’s good gifts for the sole purpose of destroying God’s good creation: you and me.

Throughout my decades of Youth Ministry, when I would stand before students and say, “Sex is not a dirty word. Sex was God’s idea,” inevitably, there would be, first, looks of confusion (I could see the “cognitive wheels turning”) followed by relief, followed by smiles. Sadly, they’d rarely, if ever in their adolescent world, viewed sex as anything other than “dirty.” After my statement has a moment to settle into their thinking…..it’s like a light comes on. And, all of a sudden, there’s a shift in their paradigm where this topic is concerned.

Sean McDowell (a Christian Apologist just like his dad, Josh) tweeted the info below regarding the free e-book, “Your Brain on Porn,” written by Luke Gilkerson. I’ve downloaded the e-book. It’s solid. Easy to read. Practical. Informative. And responsibly written from a Christian worldview.

PARENTS: this resource provides GREAT insight on this “taboo” topic. We should never be afraid to talk about sex in our homes. It was NEVER discussed in my home as a child. Like the majority, I learned about sex via friends and media. Parents, the polls still shout the truth: the #1 influence in the life of a teen is their parents. What better source for your children to have to help them sort through the “mysteries”, distortions and questions surrounding the topic of sex than you?

THE QURAN, THE BIBLE, AND THE ISLAMIC DILEMMA

I don’t have room here to share with you how God has used this brief video clip with a Muslim friend of mine in Morocco. Just know this: my friend, as Jesus described, is “not far from the Kingdom of God.”

SHOULD GAYS BE ALLOWED IN CHURCH? (YES!)

Somewhere, somehow, some people believe that gay people shouldn’t be allowed in church. Really? Sinners shouldn’t be allowed in church?? No doubt, you already see the grossly unbiblical logic behind that position. This is a solid, well-written blog with which I strongly agree.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – HOW DO CHURCHES RESPOND? (from the Dallas Morning News)

I grew up in a severely violent home. Fortunately, my church did help. However, it was never openly talked about.

QUOTE(s) OF THE WEEK

“Jesus Christ has broken the power of Satan;….and henceforth evil spirits, instead of having power over us, tremble and are [terrified] of every true Christian.” (John Henry Newman, 1801-1890)

“God has put enough into this world to make faith in Him a most reasonable thing. But He has left enough out to make it impossible to live by sheer reason alone. Faith and reason must always work together in that plausible blend.” Ravi Zacharias

“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” C.S. Lewis

“We are most like beasts when we kill. We are most like men when we judge. We are most like God when we forgive.” William Arthur Ward (tweeted by HBU New Testament scholar & apologist, Dr. Jeremiah Johnston.)

“I live for Sundays. It’s like going to the spiritual gas station to fill up on fuel and clean the dirty windshield and mirrors. I usually show up nuts, self-obsessed, vaguely agitated, and I am at once reminded not of who I am, but Whose I am.” Writer/activist, Anne Lamott

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE:

Q: What’s green, fuzzy, and if it fell out of a tree it would kill you?
A: A pool table.

My wife accused me of being immature.
I told her to get out of my fort.

And the Lord said unto John, “Come forth and you will receive eternal life.”
But John came fifth, and won a toaster.
