“AWAKENINGS: THE AFTERLIFE” (audio now online)

One scholar said, “With heaven being such an important Christian doctrine, you’d think believers would talk more about it.  But they don’t.”

Well….at BHBC, we do! 🙂  And something stirs within a believer when we stop to contemplate what John Bunyan called “the Celestial City.”

You can access half-our session, “The Coming Kingdom,” (Part 2 of a 3 Part series) here.

Part 3 (this coming Sunday evening at 5:30pm) will specifically address the “healing properties” of a “mind set on heaven.”

SHARING YOUR FAITH CONFIDENTLY & BIBLICALLY

There is no “set” method for sharing one’s faith in Jesus Christ.  John wrote, “They triumphed over [the devil], by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11)  So, one’s own “story” of how they came to trust Christ is very significant – and powerful.

That said, I still remember the method my own Youth Pastor taught me when I was in high school.  As a result, many of my friends came to Christ. (I still have the little New Testament my Youth Pastor gave me to help introduce Jesus to people.) 🙂  And since that time, I’ve used this same strategy not only with friends and acquaintances, but with my own children.  It’s called the Roman Road.  There are a number of comments I could include.  But, for brevity’s sake, I will make this succinct:

  1. Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  We begin with the “problem” – our separation from God.  This is bad news.  If the story ended here life would be meaningless.  But, we must start here – for unless one realizes this fundamental truth, they will see no need for continuing the conversation.
  2. Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This is a sort of “bad news/good news” verse.  The bad: our separation from God (due to our sin) has a most horrific consequence: eternal death; hell.  However, this is what makes the Good News so very good…which leads us to the next passage.
  3. Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Despite our sin – God loves us! This is Good News! The “horrific consequences” mentioned above were taken/absorbed by Jesus Christ on the cross twenty centuries ago!  As a result, we now have the opportunity to put our faith in what Christ did for us…which leads us to the next/final passage.
  4. Romans 10:9-10 – “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. This is truly amazing grace.

NOTE:  Should you share this Good News with someone – and the person either needs time to think about it, or rejects it altogether – you have not failed!  Remember, God didn’t call us to be successful – only faithful.  We share this Good News faithfully, and allow the Holy Spirit to bring conviction.  Lastly, always spend time praying for that person with whom you desire to share this Good News.

ONE QUOTE:

“God is infinite and cannot be fully expressed in mere words.  God cannot be fully and finally defined because to define something is to put an end to it.  And the Infinite cannot be ended.”  Dr. Michael Ward (one of my professors; it was the moment after first reading this quote….that my head exploded.) 🙂

Soli Deo Gloria, Nick
