THE POWER OF CHRISTIAN MUSIC
You are most likely familiar with the song we often sing in our late service, Every Praise (video is below). Well, the child in this Fox News story knows it – and it might have saved his life!
SHOULD CHRISTIANS CONFRONT MORMON MISSIONARIES WHEN THEY KNOCK ON YOUR FRONT DOOR?
Lynn Wilder is one of the people included in this article from Christianity Today. I’ve attached her answer immediately below. (I liked her answer best.) Lynn & her family will be here at BHBC on Aug. 2nd.

ATHEISM & CHRISTIANITY
Atheist Biologist, Richard Dawkins: ‘Religion is a fairy-tale dreamt up by people who are afraid of the dark.’
Christian Scientist & Apologist, John Lennox: ‘Atheism is a fairy-tale dreamt up by people who are afraid of the light.’
It is critical to remember that Atheism (as well as Christianity) requires a great deal of faith.
AN END-OF-SEMESTER PRAYER
As I complete my first year at HBU in pursuit of a Master of Arts in Apologetics, I am painfully reminded of the stress and anxiety that commonly accompanies end-of-semester tests and research papers that are now due. Borrowing words from 13th century philosopher/theologian, Thomas Aquinas, a classmate of mine “updated” one of Aquinas’ prayers, making it applicable to those of us working intensely to do our best on end-of-semester projects. It’s recorded for you immediately below. A humble, powerful prayer, I’ve prayed it a number of times. I’ve included it here just in case you know a student who might like a copy. 🙂
“Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, true source of light and fountain of wisdom! Pour forth your brilliance upon my dense intellect, dissipate the darkness which covers me, that of sin and of ignorance. Grant me a penetrating mind to understand, a retentive memory, method and ease in learning, the lucidity to comprehend, and abundant grace in expressing myself. Guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful completion. This I ask through Jesus Christ, true God and true man, living and reigning with You and the Father, forever and ever. Amen.”
“O FORTUNA”
This past week I attended a choir concert at Frenship High School. One of the final numbers was Orff’s “O FORTUNA” – it is breathtaking. Of note, the video is only 3 1/2 minutes long. The last 90 seconds are applause. Finally, don’t miss the explosive crescendo at the 2:44 mark. Enjoy… 🙂
“THE KEY TO PRAYER IS SIMPLY PRAYING” (A.W. Tozer)
Reminder: BHBC will be open every Saturday at 5pm (unless notified otherwise) for prayer-walking.
QUOTE(s) of the WEEK
“Your place in heaven will seem to be made for you and you alone, because you were made for it – made for it stitch by stitch as a glove is made for a hand.” – C.S. Lewis; The Problem of Pain
“Religion makes us proud of what we have done. The Gospel makes us proud of what Jesus has done.” Tim Keller
“Jesus is the true and better Job, the truly innocent sufferer, who then intercedes for and saves his numskull friends.” Tim Keller
LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE:
This next photo was sent to me just this morning from our new pastor, Jason Atchley. I’m thrilled he’s a fellow coffee-drinker. (Coffee, in my humble opinion, is the perfect-bonding-beverage.) 🙂
