MUHAMMAD: HIS LIFE, QUEST & MESSAGE TO FOLLOWERS

I was sent this very detailed outline on Islam by Beverly McBeath. It is a wonderful presentation from the leadership at Christ the King Catholic Church here in Lubbock. I don’t need to mention here how pervasive Islam is within our American Culture. It would prove rewarding for any Christian to peruse these notes so as to know how to better lovingly engage with our Muslim friends.

FOX NEWS: A MUSLIM SHARES HER SPIRITUAL JOURNEY TO CHRISTIANITY

I thought this story of Christian faith nicely balanced the preceding the presentation from Christ the King Church.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ISIS…AND DON’T

Current opinions about ISIS often suffer from a “politically correct” notion which focuses on this group’s ideology but ignores its strict Islamic theology. Releasing later this summer from Destiny Image Publishing, this book by Craig Evans and Jeremiah Johnston is hard-hitting, current, with a redemptive silver lining and offers what no other book does in evaluating ISIS in the current market — analysis of the Islamic theology driving the ideology of ISIS. Meanwhile, ISIS releases 90,000 social media messages per day luring Western youth.

“HAVING CHURCH” AT MY NEIGHBORHOOD WAL-MART

So, while I was checking out in the Garden Center at my nearby Wal-Mart, the employee working the cash register asked if my tattoo was written in Hebrew. I said, “yes”, and told him the back-story, Jordan’s death, etc (people were everywhere, listening – it was yesterday, a Saturday).

He replied, “Cool. I am Jewish and immediately recognized it as being Hebrew.” He continued, “Every day I recite the first line of the ‘Shema’.” (That’s Deuteronomy 6:4-6)

I had already gotten my stuff and was headed to the door, but when I heard him mention the Shema (Shih-MAH) I turned and hollered, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!”

He then hollered to me, “My God be with you, my friend!”

Everyone was listening as, for a brief moment (the entire encounter lasted less than 3 minutes), we had “church” at Wal-Mart. Awesomeness… 🙂

QUOTE(s) of the WEEK

“It was like being feverish, while at the same time being completely well. Everything felt sharp-edged, preternaturally clearly; as if the very rocks and trees and sky were poised to reveal some meaning beyond themselves. I felt the presence of something…Someone…that was within me, yet outside or beyond myself. With a feeling something like dread, and certainly like fear, I recognized what it was: an experience with the Other.” – Former atheist, Dr. Holly Ordway, in her book, “Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms” – describing her initial encounter with God as she wrestled with the possibility of His existence.  (Dr. Ordway is my advisor at HBU.)

“Christians are not so much in danger when they are persecuted as when they are admired.” – Charles Spurgeon

“Worry is a peculiarly modern condition. Its history can be traced through its etymology: from its Old English meaning of ‘to strangle’, to its Renaissance sense of ‘physical harassment’, to its current connotation of mild anxiety…Worry develops when reason edges out faith…Worrying exposes what we really have faith in.” – Francis O’Gorman; “Worrying: A Literary & Cultural History”

THANK YOU, THANK YOU! YOUR PRAYERS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

This past week was emotional in the Watts home with all the family gathering for Macy’s high school graduation – emotional for normal reasons, but especially due to the gaping hole represented by Jordan’s absence. Jordan was Macy’s best friend.  However, Christ reminded us that, because of the Cross & the Empty Tomb, our loved ones who’ve passed before us are more alive than we are.  I thought you might enjoy this pic.  Macy approached us just before graduation and told us, “Jordan will be with me at graduation.”  We all just wept – but it was a “good cry.” 🙂

QUOTE(s) of the WEEK

“Outside of the command for unbelievers to trust in Christ for salvation, there is no more practical and necessary command in Scripture than the one for believers to be filled with His Spirit. Although every Christian is indwelt, baptized, and sealed by the Spirit, unless they are also filled with the Spirit, they will live in spiritual weakness, frustration and defeat.” John MacArthur

“An old pastor once told me, ‘Always preach the blood.’ Sing it. Preach it. Tell the world about the redeeming power of His blood.” Scott Primer, in a response to an article on the Blood of Christ in Christianity Today Magazine

“I have found myself wondering where the sun has gone. Then, this morning…(wait for it)….it dawned on me.” Nick Watts, the first morning the sun came out after the month of rain
