LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

Top Ten Signs You’re In for a Long Sermon  (Part 3 of 3)

  1. When the preacher brings in his notes he rolls in a filing cabinet.
  2. The choir loft is furnished with La-Z-Boys.
  3. Instead of taking off his watch and laying it on the pulpit, the preacher turns up a four-foot hour glass.
  4. The preacher says, “You’ll be out in time to watch the Super Bowl.” (And it’s only November.)

BIG CHANGES FOR WED. NIGHTS in the FALL

As I mentioned this past Wed. night during rehearsal, Jason would like me to co-teach with him on Wed. nights.  What this means is that both, Praise Team rehearsal and Adult Choir rehearsal will experience a change in scheduling.  Beginning in September, the Praise Team has already agreed to move their rehearsals to Thursday evenings.   Also, beginning in September, Adult Choir will be moved to 5:30pm on Wed. evenings.  Below is what the Wed. & Thur. Evening Schedule will look like beginning in the Fall:

WEDNESDAY:

5:30pm – Adult Choir Rehearsal

6pm – dessert fellowship in COMMONS

6:30pm – classes begin (Jason & Nick will co-teach a large group, while other “break-out” classes will be meeting as well.

7:45pm – Dismiss

THURSDAY:  6pm – Praise Team Rehearsal in Worship Center

SUMMER SCHEDULE NOW IN EFFECT!

We, presently, are NOT having mid-week rehearsal.  There are also no mid-week Adult activities.  That means we’ll show up a little earlier on Sunday mornings – 8:45am – to have some time to rehearse and sing that morning.  We’ve done this in the past during the summer months and it has worked out very well.

7 LIES OF SUICIDE

It was three years ago this Friday (5/13) that I found my son after he’d taken his own life.

If you have contemplated suicide please read the blog below. There is always hope. If you know someone who has contemplated suicide please encourage them to read this blog.

The blogger uses the suicide-letter of a 14 year old girl to confront and refute the lies a suicidal person may believe.   Love you all, Nick

BIBLE STUDY TIP

Open-Bible-with-Pen

Dr. Mike Licona is one of my HBU professors, a successful author, and an outstanding apologist.  He writes:

Are you looking for a way to study the Bible? Do you flip around to see what God may want to say to you today? Here’s a method you will find very fruitful. One day when I was in college a guest spoke to us in chapel. He said the way he studied the Bible was to select one of the letters (e.g., James, 1 Peter, Philippians, Colossians) and for one month would read the same letter every day from beginning to end. He said by sometime during the third week his growing familiarity with the letter would allow him to notice and understand things in the letter he had never seen or understood previously. So, I tried it. I started with James and read it through every day for a month. On average, it took around 25 minutes a day. Just as the speaker had said, sometime during the third week I started noticing numerous things in the text I had never before seen. It was amazing! I ended up reading several other letters and found it a very effective method for studying the Bible. So, if you’ve been wondering around in the wilderness of Bible study with little direction on how to do it, try the method I just presented.  It’s a great day to begin!
