All You Wanted to Know about the BHBC Music Ministry (and more)

MUSIC NOTES: 6.21.16

Choir:   This Is Amazing Grace
Preacher:  Truman (early service); Jim (late service)

We’re taking a “Sabbath” during the month of July.  We’ll start up again in August.

Lewis’ “Trilemma”

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about [Christ]: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ This is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell.

“You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up as a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

C.S. Lewis, “Mere Christianity”

Three Biblical Temples

“Three temples appear in the Bible… The first temple was a magnificent structure built by Solomon and rebuilt by Herod. The second was the ‘temple/body’ of Jesus (‘Destroy it’, he said, ‘and I will raise it again in three days.’) And now a third temple has taken shape, fashioned out of individual human beings. (‘Don’t you know that you yourself are God’s temple,’ Paul wrote, ‘and that God’s spirit lives in you?’)” Philip Yancey

“the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” (Exodus 33:11)

Learning to pray use to terrify me as a kid. Then a friend showed me this verse. Talk to God like he’s your best friend. A.W. Tozer once said, “The key to prayer is simply praying.”  Nick
