Choir: No Choir
NO CHOIR IN JULY
We’re taking a “Sabbath” during the month of July. We’ll start up again in August.
WHAT WAS THE CRUCIFIXION LIKE?
Dr. Mike Licona is one of my professors at HBU and a renowned apologist for the Christian faith. This video is an excellent and responsible presentation of Christ’s crucifixion. It is 45 minutes long, so you’d need to set aside time in the event that you’d like to watch it. Nick Watch the video here.
“Look at the Bible. Its pages overflow with messy (sinful) people. The biblical writers did not edit out the flaws of its heroes…Jesus is not repelled by us, no matter how messy we are… When we recognize that Jesus is not discouraged by our humanity, is not turned off by our messiness, and simply doggedly pursues us in the face of it all, what else can we do but give in to his outrageous, indiscriminate love?” Mike Yaconelli, “Messy Spirituality”

QUOTE(s) of the WEEK
“God is not a blurry power living somewhere in the sky, not an abstraction like the Greeks proposed, not a sensual super-human like the Romans worshiped, and definitely not the absentee watchmaker of the Deists. God is *personal*. He enters into people’s lives, messes with families, shows up in unexpected places, chooses unlikely leaders, calls people to account. Most of all, God loves.” (Philip Yancey, “The Bible Jesus Read”)
LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE:
Why does “fat chance” and “slim chance” mean the same thing?
Why do we sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” when we are already there?
Why are “wise man” and “wise guy” opposites?
Why is “phonics” not spelled the way it sounds?
How come “abbreviated” is such a long word?
