NEWSFLASH!  ONLY 8 MONDAYS TIL CHRISTMAS!

THIS SUNDAY, 10/30

Choir:   Hear the Call of the Kingdom
Preacher:  Jason  (Observance of the LORD’S SUPPER this coming Sunday.)

OUTSTANDING REHEARSAL THIS PAST SUNDAY!

There are 5 songs in our Christmas musical (together with the narration, the musical lasts about 35 minutes).  We have now rehearsed – and learned – 3 1/2 of those songs.  And it’s only October!  We’re making tremendous strides.  THANK YOU for your attendance!  (And we had THREE new choir members this past Sunday!)

Our next X-tra rehearsal is Sunday, Nov. 6th, at 4pm.  Love you all!

“CASE FOR CHRIST” MOVIE 2017

Josh McDowell’s “More Than a Carpenter” (published 1977) was the first book I read to pique my interest in Christian Apologetics. The second book I read to do the same was Lee Strobel’s “The Case for Christ.” (1998)

Both McDowell and Strobel are neither gullible nor unintelligent. Both are former atheists who did all they could to prove that Christianity was nothing more than a mere fantastical fairy-tale. Strobel, educated at Yale, confidently asserts, “We have a defensible faith.” McDowell, while lecturing at the University of Uruguay, was asked by a student, “Why don’t you refute Christianity?” He replied honestly, “I would except for one thing. I can’t explain away an event in history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Next Spring (2107), a movie based on Strobel’s journey from atheism to belief in Christ hits the big screen.

ANGELS IN THE SKY?

I stumbled across this FOX NEWS article this past week.  The article includes a video a man took of a cloud formation.  I have to admit – I agree with the guy who took the video – I’ve never seen a cloud formation like that either.  Enjoy  Read the article and watch the video by clicking here.

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

Actual statements written by young children based on what they’ve learned from the Bible:

“A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony.”

“Noah’s wife was called Joan of Ark.”

“The seventh commandment is “thou shalt not admit adultery.”

“Solomon, one of David’s sons, had 300 wives and 700 porcupines.”

“The epistles were the wives of the apostles.”

“Lot’s wife was a pillar of salt by day, but a ball of fire by night.”

THE PEACEABLE KINGDOM – TTU – Oct. 14th

I received the following note from Kerry Wright this past week.  “The Peaceable Kingdom” is a beautiful work.  I was fortunate enough to sing it while I was in college.

I want to invite all of you to the first Lubbock Chorale concert of the season on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 at Texas Tech’s Hemmle Recital Hall . It is the Peaceable Kingdom by Randall Thompson. The text of the concert is entirely from various verses in Isaiah and in particular 11:6 “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them”.

The entire piece is acapella! And in English! Really fun. . .

Below is a link to the Lubbock Chorale website. Also, if you have time, listen to the Peaceable Kingdom on Spotify or some other app to get a feel for the music and content.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN

In short, “intelligent design” is the argument for a creator vs. a simply naturalistic story of evolution.  The folks at Ilustra Media have just completed their most recent DVD on the topic of Intelligent Design – and it’s fantastic.  You can read the Q & A about the new movie here.  Within the interview you will also find links to view previews and/or purchase various DVD’s on the topic of Intelligent Design.  Here is the trailer for their newest release:  Origin: Design, Chance, and the First Life on Earth

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE:  (Redneck Church, Part 3)

You Know You’re in a Redneck Church if…

In a congregation of 500 members, there are only seven last names in the church directory.

You Know You’re in a Redneck Church if…

People think “rapture” is what you get when you lift something too heavy.

You Know You’re in a Redneck Church if…

The baptismal pool is a #2 galvanized ” Wheeling ” washtub.
