QUOTE(s) of the Week

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“The joy of God goes through the poverty of the manger and the agony of the cross; that is why it is invincible, irrefutable. It does not deny the anguish, when it is there, but finds God in the midst of it, in fact precisely there;…it looks death straight in the eye but finds life precisely within it.” Dietrich Bonheoffer (Christmas, 1942)

GRACE NOTES:  “The Next Time Jesus Comes”

The First Time Jesus Came:

He came veiled in the form of a child.
A star marked his arrival.
Wise men brought him gifts.
There was no room for him.
Only a few attended his arrival.
He came as a baby.

The Next Time Jesus Comes:

He will be recognized by all.
Heaven will be lit by his glory.
He will bring rewards for his own.
The world won’t be able to contain his glory.
Every eye shall see him.
He will come as Sovereign King and Lord of all.

AMAZING GRACE…

Fred McNab was the Music Pastor at Pioneer Dr. Baptist Church in Abilene, TX, when I was in 7th grade. Outside of Easter, our family rarely attended church. But Fred would contact me regularly just to check up on me. I’ve never forgotten it. When I committed my life to full-time ministry in 1980, Fred was one of the men I tried to pattern my life & ministry after. He’s one of the greatest Music Pastors (and men of God) I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Today, he’s the Music Pastor at Hunter’s Glenn Baptist Church in Plano, TX. Last Sunday, his music ministry performed the beloved hymn, “Amazing Grace.” Take a few minutes and drink it in. If something like this can create so much emotion in the human heart, can you begin to fathom the beauty and majesty our loved ones are experiencing in the presence of the One this song is about? Soli Deo Gloria

DID GOD “STEP IN” AND PROTECT ISRAEL FROM ISIS THIS PAST WEEK?  (This gave me chills.)

hand-of-hashem-or-hand-of-god-dust-storm

One headline stated it this way:   “Massive Dust Storm Forms ‘Hand of God’ Over Israeli Border to ‘Protect Nation from ISIS – Just Like in Old Testament.”  The amateur video is very powerful.  Read the story here.

COINCIDENCE?  I DON’T THINK SO….

QUOTE(s) of the WEEK:

“Often a work of God comes with two edges, great joy and great pain, and in that matter-of-fact response Mary embraced both.  She was the first person to accept Jesus on his own terms, regardless of the personal cost.”  Philip Yancey, The Jesus I Never Knew

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

Bob was just coming out of anesthesia after a series of tests in the hospital, and his wife, Sarah, was sitting at his bedside. His eyes fluttered open and he murmured, “You’re beautiful.” Flattered, Sarah continued her vigil while Bob drifted back to sleep. Later he woke up and said, “You’re cute.” “What happened to ‘beautiful”?, Sarah asked. He replied, “The drugs are wearing off.”

MIRACLES – DO THEY EXIST?

eric-metaxas-miracles

Christmas (when Christians celebrate a virgin birth, angels, and a mysterious star) seems like a timely season to mention the topic of “miracles”, and whether or not they exist. In my studies in Christian Apologetics at HBU I read both Hume & Lewis and their opposing views on this controversial topic. Should you find interest in reading a modern, intellectual approach to the possibility of miracles I would strongly recommend Eric Metaxas’ 2014 book, Miracles. Metaxas is a Christian and a NYT best-selling author. I read Miracles last year and found it compelling. To read a solid review that Metaxas, himself, posted recently on Twitter click here.

DOLLYWOOD EMPLOYEE FINDS BURNED PAGE FROM BIBLE AFTER WILDFIRES…

This story is nuts.  Read the story here.

WAS PLANET EARTH ‘DESIGNED’ FOR LIFE TO EXIST?

If the fact that “earth is habitable for life” is due to mere chance, then chances are that there are other planets in our galaxy also habitable for life to exist.  Right?  Read on…

“For a planet to be truly habitable it must simultaneously reside in all nine known habitable zones (liquid water, ultraviolet, photosynthetic, ozone, rotation rate, obliquity, tidal, astrosphere, and atmospheric electric field). Of the 3,547 planets discovered so far, only one resides in all nine known habitable zones — Earth.” Astronomer, Hugh Ross, The Improbable Planet: How Earth Became Humanity’s Home

MIKE YUNG:  THE SUBWAY SINGER

Recently, a man was caught on video singing the classic, “Unchained Melody”, in a subway.  The video went viral.  His voice is truly amazing.  His recent popularity prompted a Late Night Talk Show host to invite him onto his show to sing the classic.  Enjoy…

QUOTE(s) of the WEEK

“Those who determine to walk with God become the target of the enemy… If you have already made such a commitment (to walk with God), I can assure you that the host of hell has already gotten word… 2 Timothy 3:12 says straight out, ‘In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Chuck Swindoll

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

Watch this classic scene from the Carol Burnett Show.  Equally funny as Tim Conway falling down the stairs in slow motion is watching Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman desperately trying not to laugh…
