CHANGING OF THE GUARD:  E-NEWS

In the coming weeks, since the “interim” has now been removed, I will be turning over the weekly “music notes” to Glenna Applewhite.  At the same time, as I begin to now fully take over the leadership of all facets of small groups (SUMMIT Groups), biblical teaching and learning, I will create a weekly e-news for that particular ministry demographic.  My plan is to complete this transaction by the end of May.

The e-news I will create for our Small Group Leadership will include much of what you have been receiving from me on a weekly basis (devotionals, quotes, articles on current social/global issues, theology, and apologetics) along with occasional articles and resources on biblical teaching and learning, as well as upcoming events.

I do not at all mind continuing to include you in that weekly email (some of you may already be serving in small group leadership and, as such, will be receiving it.)  But, if you do NOT want to continue receiving my new E-News simply email me at nick@baconheights.com and let me know so that, when I begin said E-News, your name will not be included in that emailing.  And know this:  I will NOT be offended if you want off the list!  Sometimes, we just receive too much email. 🙂  nw

THANK YOU FROM THE APPLEWHITE’S

Church family, thank you so much for supporting our work in Uganda.  In a single Sunday morning you gave over $2000.  Your generosity will allow us to distribute much needed school supplies to the Christian school we work with.  We look forward to sharing your love of Christ and the work of the kingdom with the precious children.   Marc & Glenna

HAS SCIENCE FINALLY EXPLAINED THE ORIGIN OF LIFE?

The majority of non-Christian scientists continue to draw philosophical, personal conclusions from empirical findings to somehow – some way – remove even the slightest chance that God had anything whatsoever to do with the origin of life. Remember that even Darwin had much to say about the origin of species but nothing to offer regarding the origin of life.

Linked for you here is an excellent blog here by Kirk Durston, Ph.D. in Biophysics (who is also a believer) as he sets the scientific record straight.

Satyan Devadoss, chair of applied mathematics at the University of San Diego, rightly states, “Science does not have a monopoly on reason and logic.”

And, as I’ve mention to you before, Dr. Andy Bannister, asserts, “The claim ‘only science can discover truth’ is self-refuting, as the statement itself cannot be verified using science.”

Read Dr. Durston’s article here.

ASTROPHYSICS & THE BIBLE

I’m presently reading Dr. Neil Tyson’s Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.

Tyson, not a believer, makes some general and irresponsible statements about the Christian worldview – which I ignore (why expect a non-believer to do otherwise?) – but the science is interesting.  That said, I do respect Tyson for readily admitting “astrophysicists have no idea” how the cosmos came into existence.

He spends almost the entire first chapter describing what took place within the first two seconds of the explosion of the universe into existence.  In my humble opinion, what he describes sure does sound a whole lot like Genesis 1. 🙂

THE EASIEST LESSONS TO LEARN ARE FROM THE MISTAKES OF OTHERS

Though tragic, I can’t say I am shocked at this headline about a man in India. A selfie with a bear? Really?

QUOTE of the WEEK

As we approach this Mother’s Day… To all moms who’ve lost a child and to all people who’ve lost their mom :

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

And a bonus:  There are many times Michelle could have said this to me…
